The Mount Swimming Club

  • Are you stuck in a rut with your swimming?
  • Do you need to improve your swim times?
  • Fed up of thrashing up and down and getting nowhere?

Then think about coming along to the newly formed The Mount Swimming Club.

The Mount  Swimming Club is a competitive organisation which aims at training young swimmers, of all abilities, to attain a high standard of competitive achievement and at the same time enjoy themselves. Throughout the year the club will hopefully compete in a regular programme of swimming  gala’s both locally and across the Yorkshire region. The club once developed will also complete each year in the Yorkshire County Championships and North Eastern District Championships and eventually Nationals and international. The Mount Club will encourages any swimmer who meets the required standard to take up the opportunity to train with and represent themselves and The Mount Club.

Our aim is to provide all members of the community with the opportunity to develop swimming skills. We offer high quality coaching from minnows  through to County, Regional and National competition.

Our policy is for swimming to be accessible to all regardless of the level they aspire to and we intend to  keep our fees to an absolute minimum once established.

Our philosophy is that growing up and participation in sport should be FUN.

Our emphasis is on enjoying the sport and being part of a team - TEAM MOUNT.

The swimming club will train at The Mount School Pool and other city of York pools once established.  All training sessions, timetables, training schedules, team selection and Swimming Gala Organisation are the responsibility of the Chief Coach, supported by the coaching team. However, the coaching team rely very much on the support parents give to ensure that training sessions and time trials run effectively. The club will encourages any parent, who is willing to assist the club, to obtain minor swimming coaching and teaching qualifications.

IS IT ALL SWIMMING?

In the main yes! - The core function of the club is to provide a wide range of swimming activities and facilities to develop all our young swimmers from “Tidlers” to “Teens”, and “Masters”. However, we do believe in developing fully all leisure aspects of club life.

Training is all about “re-creating” your self. Training changes your mind and body to such a degree that it has the same effect of modifying yourself as if you were part of the laboratory experiment of some mad scientist. Training helps you rebuild, remake, recreate and regenerate yourself into a swimming machine capable of anything!

How much a swimmer gains from his/her individual training sessions will, to a great extent, be dependent on their personal discipline, application and attitude.

We have the skills, commitment and enthusiasm. Our aim is to deliver the best  coaching possible to enable all swimmers to reach their full  potential.  With the benefit of a true partner organization working for mutual benefit, we can achieve much that will then be sustained for years to come, for all concerned.

WHAT DO I NEED TO JOIN?

Ability, required is to be L10 or S10 Competitive Award Bronze Challenge Award.

Once the trial period has been completed the new member has the opportunity to become a full Club member.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The monthly fees, for the various squads, are fixed by the Club Committee, and reviewed annually, or as necessary. This information is not fixed as yet until the club becomes established.

Once swimmers become members all swimmers must also pay an annual registration fee to the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) to enable swimming in league gala’s, open meets etc. This fee also covers the costs of Insurance Premiums payable.
