Swimming in Sherburn

This month, we’re featuring our very first venue where Carol Saunders Swim School all began. With a fabulous team and fantastic range of lessons, you’ll struggle to find a better place to swim than Sherburn High School!

Back in 1987, Carol Saunders set up her very first class with six swimmers. She wanted to make swimming fun, but also guide her students in a way that they would progress fast. She loved seeing their improvement week by week and her students loved learning the best techniques from her!

This enthusiasm has fuelled Sherburn’s success through to the present day. Now with a team of 6 staff members, swimmers can choose from over 40 lessons throughout the week!

Ashleigh, Hannah, Becky and Dan are all STA or ASA/Swim England Level 2 qualified meaning they lead lessons to an extremely high standard. They plan activities which they know students will enjoy and they’re aware of how these will help them on their swimming pathways. It goes without saying that they are always highly committed to safeguarding.

Darci and Max complete the team. In their roles, they run or assist with lessons to learn valuable skills that will allow them to progress in their own professional teaching careers.

With their wide range of experience, the Sherburn team offer lessons for all abilities on nearly every day of the week. Beginners and Intermediate classes take place daily from Monday to Saturday. There are also plenty of sessions for Beginner+, Improver, Improver+ and Advanced. You can even arrange a one to one!

Excitingly, the team are now running Rookie Lifeguard sessions on Wednesday evenings. They’re also looking to start their Mermaid Cove Academy on Friday evenings- this will be an incredible chance to try swimming like a Mermaid or Mermaster with an artificial tail!

The venue at Sherburn High School features a fabulous pool. At 15 metres by 5m it is a comfortable size for little ones and not too intimidating for beginners. The space is light and airy, and swimmers can enjoy brand new changing facilities refurbished in the last few months.

Located in the village of Sherburn in Elmet, the pool is easily accessible. It’s just a short journey from the city of Leeds or from Selby or Castleford.
