STA Certificate in Aquatic Teaching - Baby & Pre-school

Who is it for?

STA Baby & Pre-school is a stand-alone course to train swimming teachers in the special skills required when introducing babies and very young children to aquatic activities.

What will I learn?

The aim of this couse is to develop your knowledge and skills to be able to deliver safe infant and pre-school child swimming. You will learn teaching methods and lesson plans for different age groups, from under six months to pre-school beginners.

Course Content

  • Understanding health & safety in a teaching environment
  • Child protection & integration of special needs students
  • The principles of planning & teaching aquatics
  • Background to safe infant and pre-Sschool child swimming
  • Developing lesson plans & teaching methods for children 6 mths to pre-school
  • Techniques for entry and exit safety skills, submersion, jumping & diving skills
  • The transition from infant aquatics with parents to independent swimming


Support & Delivery

After booking your course you will be sent your vlearning materials comprising of manuals, workbooks, and your student guide.

4 days (Clasroom and swimming pool based learning)


Practical Assessment

Written Theory Examination

Entry Requirements

Students must be 18 or over

Students must be members of the STA.

Students must hold the “Safeguarding Children,Young People and Vulnerable Adults” online programme or acceptable equivalent.

Students must hold a current NaRS Pool Safety Award or acceptable equivalent.
